I have had
a passion for whitewater for over twenty years already. It all started
back in Snowdonia north Wales. Many people
think that the british Isles are too small to have any good whitewater.
Okay the rivers are mostly too small to raft, but if you like to launch
kayaks off waterfalls then you are in the right place. Here I have to
give special thanks to Loel Collins a whitewater legend who taught me
a lot. I started, as you do, on a lake, then I became an instructor, then
it was easy moving water and before you knew it I was doing all of the
standard harder runs in the area.
My first taste of the big
rubber boats was in the south of France on the Durance river, rafting
with school kids that where on a multi-activity adventure holiday. Soon
after that I spent my first season in Tirol. Just now I am about to start
my 15th season in Tirol and I still love it. The rivers here may not be
class five but I have rafted my share of class five in Nepal and New Zealand
and at the end of the day I am happy to stay on class four rivers. Whitewater
is a potentialy very dangerous enviroment and I would not want any of
my customers to get hurt in anyway. |
